Daily tour on a sailing boat

1 day – departure from the touristic port of Palau

Daily tour program

We help decide with our guests on a daily basis depending on the weather conditions, in order to make their adventure as enjoyable as possible. Once we are in a sheltered area we will evaluate together if everyone would like to stop for a swim, just relax, or have a short hike around the area to discover the surroundings. As the day progresses and lunchtime draws near we will choose the best spot to stop and eat.Every day is different and unrepeatable, for people who are seeing the archipelago or those who are returning. No one remains indifferent to the beauty of Sardinia!

Day at the island

We organize every day the tours starting from the port of Palau. The boat Athena will be ready to set sail in the morning returning in the late afternoon with crew: skipper and hostess. The skipper will do a short briefing, where he will give a brief description of the islands in the archipelago of La Maddalena and the route that will be possible to follow that day based on the weather conditions(wave and wind direction). During the day we normally suggest stopping 2/3 times in little sheltered bays. When the boat is anchored, it’s possible to reach shore swimming, or just snorkeling around the boat The stops will vary from 40 to 60 minutes. We also accompany our guests to the beaches using our tender to reach shore without swimming. Ahtenasail departs from the touristic port of Palau setting sail towards the archipelago’s islands with its immaculate beaches of white sand and transparent water that only Sardinia is most famous for.

During the navigation from one island to another we will sail as much as possible, especially if the wind is continuous. On board lunch will be offered which includes a Sardinian appetizer, first dish, coffee, digestive and drinks offered (white wine- water- soft drinks). Water is available to guests all day and for any need it will be possible to contact the hostess on board who will be happy to meet your requests.

The boat is really comfortable ,the guests can choose to sit in the cockpit or laydown on the bow of the boat(front),or sit near the captain at the stern. Guests will also have at their disposition the inside of the boat where they can use the toilet or leave their belongings or bags where they will stay dry from any the sea spray. When the boat stops for lunch the crew will open the sun curtain for shade. Athenasail offers also some diving masks to our guests for free usage so they can eplore the beauty the archipelago of la Maddalena under water as well. On board we also have medicine for sea-sickness. As we have mentioned before Athenasail is different because we don’t have a fixed route every day, we like to take into consideration what our guests would like to visit, this way all our customers are satisfied.

CLASSIC ITINERARY

A typical, or the itinerary which we have defined as ”Classic ” that Athenasail recommends, is programmed with boarding and departure in the tourist port of Palau. The meeting is scheduled for approximately 10:30/11:00 am. Once the boat leaves the port and the sail is hoisted we will sail towards the archipelago of La Maddalena cruising along Porto Faro, also the charming and quaint Porto Raphael. Heading out towards the island of Spargi where we usually suggest making our first stop for around 50 to 60 minutes in a little bay that will be chosen by the skipper in accordance with the guests. Here you can either swim ashore, or be accompanied by tender. Once back on board we will continue our adventure and sail through the Bonifacio strait heading further towards the island of Budelli where the guests will have a chance to enjoy the island’s landscape and admire from the boat the its’ famous “Pink Beach”. Continuing on a bit more we will enter in one of the most famous area known as “Manto della Madonna” or “Piscine Naturali” which is a natural pool characterized by a crystal clear turquoise body of water in the middle of 3 islands Budelli, Razzoli, Santa Maria. In this enchanting spot the guests will have once again the chance to swim, snorkel, relax in the sun, or chat(giving rise to many new friendships) while Lucia prepares a delicious lunch on board. After relaxing a bit we will move on to our last stop for the day in the archipelago of La Maddalena, this will be for about one hour, then we will set sail to return back towards Palau. We arrive back in port around 5,00/5;30 pm, the time will be flexible on base of the wind and in according to the guests needs.

DETAILS

The number of guests on board is up to 12 plus 2 of crew. We normally prefer to carry 10/11 persons per day. It is possible to book the boat not only for private use but also share it with other guests. In the case of a private charter the price will be agreed directly with the management and the itinerary and lunch can be also personalized.It’s also possible start earlier than the normal departure time. When the boat is shared by different guests the meeting time is at 10;30 in the touristic port of Palau. The costs of the rental of the boat will be divided with the group of guests for a maximum of 10/11 people, this includes the lunch as well. For any type of intolerance or allergy, the customer is obliged to inform the management in time, at least one day before the excursion (requests will not be accepted the same morning) in order to be able to organize a valid alternative that can satisfy the customer.

Athenasail organizes sunset tours in the archipelago of la Maddalena. The excursions will be organized twice a week in the months of June-July and August.The boat is available from 7;00 pm in the touristic port of Palau. Once we leave the port we will sail inside the archipelago of Maddalena towards the island of Spargi. In accordance with the guests we will choose one of the three bays which are: Cala d’alga, Cala Corsara and Cala Soraja in which we will stop. The boat will drop anchor close to one of the beaches so that the guests can reach the shore by swimming, or accompanied by tender. The guests will have free time to enjoy the enchanting panorama, swim, snorkel, take pictures in dusk of the golden lights of the sunset, or have a simple walk on the beach. Once back on the boat we will give you the opportunity to take a shower at the stern of the boat and change into dry clothes. After everyone is settled we will offer you an aperi-dinner on board while you can admire the beautiful colored sky in each other’s company. A selection of typical Sardinian products and excellent local wine will be served. We believe you will thoroughly enjoy pleasant hours in the company of new friends.

The return trip will be at night-time by motor, illuminated only by the moon and stars, arriving back into port around 10;00/10;30 pm. The return time can fluctuate according to the needs of the group.

It’s possible to rent the boat for a private charter or share it with others. The sunset tour in Sardinia is really a favourite with our guests, the great success it has had in recent years lies in the fact that you can enjoy the beaches and the landscape in complete relaxation and privacy. During the day the archipelago of La Maddalena is highly frequented by private boats but above all by big tourist boats due to the fact that it is considered the most beautiful location in Sardinia, so the inflow of tourists is great. In the evening when these boats have left the area silence dominates the bays, the lights are suffused, the water is warmer than during the day and nature shows itself in all its splendor, here the magic starts…

Athenasail proposes mini cruises to discover the Archipelago of Maddalena and archipelago of Southern Corsica. The boat is rented including crew(skipper and hostess)and is available from 9:30 / 10: 00 when we board until 5;00/6;00 pm the last day. The itinerary will be agreed upon with the skipper after viewing the marine weather reports and we will sail to the islands, choosing where to stop for a swim, have lunch on board and relax lulled by the sea. The cost includes boat, crew and port if it is the home port (Palau) plus final cleaning. The cabins will be available with sheets, pillows, blankets and towels. All stops in other ports are to be considered at the customer’s expense.

The galley, i.e. food and drinks are excluded.Fuel is excluded.

EXAMPLE ITINERARY MINI CRUISE 2 DAYS

Athenasail proposes have you check-in at 9;30/10;00 am in the tourist port of Palau. When boarding we will show you the spaces available on board where you can store your luggage, we will then illustrate the rules to follow while living on board, these are for your safety especially if it is your first sailing experience.

After having read the weather forecasts together with the skipper a possible itinerary (that takes into account both the wind direction and the guests’ needs) will be discussed in order to make everyone happy. The itinerary we propose below is possible to follow most days.

Upon leaving Palau’s port we hoist (raise) the sail and take route towards Spargi, where we will choose a cove to anchor the boat in an area where it will be possible for guests to swim, snorkel or be accompanied to the beach. Once back on board you will find the boat set up for serving the lunch outside.After a nice siesta, we will move towards the natural pools that are situated in the center of the three islands which are Budelli, Razzoli and Santa Maria. In this area there is a perfect natural shelter which gives us the possibility to spend the night at anchor. In the evening before the dinner is served, there is plenty of time for you to enjoy the tranquility of a late afternoon swim or to explore the various coves. Spending a night admiring the stars in this enchanting setting is fantastic .In the morning you can wake up with the lights and colors of dawn and see the day start from the sea and after have breakfast together with us. Later on, it will be possible to continue the visit of the Archipelago moving towards the island of La Maddalena sailing along the northern side until we reach Caprera. Once in Caprera, we will choose a cove to stop for snorkeling and to have a peaceful lunch. Departure is in the afternoon and we arrive back in the port of Palau around 5:00pm.

Athenasail proposes to set the check-in at 9;30/10;00 am in the tourist port of Palau. When boarding we will show you the spaces available on board where you can store your luggage, we will then illustrate the rules to follow while living on board, these are for your safety especially if it is your first sailing experience.

Once back on board you will find the boat set up for lunch that will be served outside.After lunch it’s possible to sail to the northernmost islands of the archipelago: the island of Budelli, the island of Razzoli and the island of Santa Maria. At the center of the three islands an estuary of magnificent shallow water creating a “Natural Pools”, which is not only beautiful but it’s also a great place protected from some winds and lovely for spending a night at anchor. Spending a night admiring the stars in this enchanting setting and then taking a wonderful bath at dawn is a dream.

The following day we will resume our journey and start with a beautiful sail crossing the strait of Bonifacio to visit one of the most beautiful islands of the Corsican archipelago, Lavezzi. The island of Lavezzi is famous for its transparent waters and above all for the liveliness and abundance of marine fauna, making it a fun and interesting place for snorkeling. On the island, there are many paths that lead to a monumental cemetery of an old shipwreck, or to various beaches. We will choose a suitable, sheltered place to spend a peaceful night and continue the journey the following day.For the last day, we usually propose to sail to Corsica and the magnificent port of Bonifacio, where it is possible to visit the antique town by foot and have lunch in one of the many bars in its historic center. In the afternoon we will return to the boat and start our return trip back towards Palau where we will arrive around 5:00 pm. The return sailing trip will last about 3 – 3.5 hours, this will depend on the wind intensity of the day.

EXAPMLE ITINERARY WEEKLY CRUISE

Our weekly cruises start and finish on Sunday, with a check –in 9;30 and start at 10;00 am of the first day and check-out 5;00 5;30 pm of last day.

The boat is rented only with crew, (skipper and hostess) that have professional titles. In accordance with guests we will plan an itinerary inside the archipelago of la Maddalena and Northern Sardinia. Sheets, cushions, blankets and towels are provided. Costs for ports outside of Palau as well as fuel and food ** are not included. The cost of fuel is based on the hours of use of the engine which uses 6 liters per hour.
